This project saw the construction of a 5,500m2 four level research building comprising offices, consulting suites, laboratories, chemical and cell culture rooms, and cold and cool rooms. Specialised areas for medical research incorporating ‘physical containment’ laboratories, phlebotomy room, clinical trials room, and pre/post PCR labs were also required. Building services were extensive and included specialised items such as laboratory gases, fume cupboards, BMS and a RO water system. The PC3 lab was built to attain zero pressure loss testing and built out of double skinned insulated stainless-steel panels.
Steve Haskayne was engaged as the Project Manager, employed by the builder to oversee all subcontractors including awarding subcontracts, approving payments and attending site meetings with all relevant stakeholders. As leading Project Manager, Steve Haskayne was awarded the 2009 WA Professional Excellence in Building Award for this project from the AIB ($10-50M commercial construction category). The project was completed in 2009.
